Ruben Diaz, M.D.


Interventional Pain Physiatrist

 

 

In 1991 Dr. Diaz graduated from the Universidad Central del Caribe Medical School in Puerto Rico where he had the opportunity to learn from William Micheo M.D. (Current President of the American Academy of PM&R), and Walter Frontera M.D. (Ex Chief of PM&R at Harvard University) who are considered two of the most renowned Doctors in conservative musculoskeletal care. After completing medical school he went to Albany Medical Center Hospital in New York where he did his Internship and PM&R Residency.

Prior to joining the Atlanta Orthopedics Team, Dr. Diaz served as Director of the Interventional Pain Center at Newton Medical Center. Before that he spent 10 years serving our Veterans in both the San Juan VAMC, and the Decatur VAMC in Atlanta. During that time he was Assistant Professor at the Emory PM&R Residency program where he taughtFluoroscopy Guided Spinal Procedures, Electrodiagnostics, Musculoskeletal Medicine and Amputee Rehabilitation. Dr. Diaz was chosen Teacher of the Year in 2004 by the Emory PM&R Department.

He is Board Certified in the PM&R Specialty, Spinal Cord Medicine Subspecialty, and Pain Medicine Subspecialty. He is currently preparing for his Board Certification in Sports
Medicine, which should be completed in late 2009.

On a personal note Dr. Diaz has lived in Lawrenceville for almost 10 years. He is actively involved with the Grayson Athletic Association as a Baseball Coach. He is married, and has 2 wonderful sons. His wife, Vivian, is very active in the local PTA, serving as vice president for the new Starling Elementary School, and as committee chairman for the new Couch Middle School.

Dr. Diaz has been recognized for his diagnostic, conservative management, and interventional procedure skills which assist in the reduction of pain, increase motor function, and decrease dependence of chronic medications.

Dr. Diaz is fluent in both English and Spanish.
