Dr. Scales recently joined Atlanta Orthopedics as a general orthopedic surgeon with a strong clinical interest in sports medicine. He brings several years of general orthopedic experience to our practice.
Dr. Scales graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a BS degree. He then attended and graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine where he obtained his MD degree.
After medical school, Dr Scales joined the US Army and completed his internship and residency training in orthopaedic surgery at William Beaumont Army Medical Center and Texas Tech University in El Paso, TX. While serving in the Army, he was stationed in: Germany, Bosnia, Kosovo, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Texas, and Virginia. He served in military operations in both Bosnia and Kosovo, and in combat operations in the First Gulf War (Desert Shield/Desert Storm). Dr. Scales finished his military service in Virginia while serving on the faculty of the Army Sports Medicine Fellowship at Ft. Belvoir, VA.
Before coming to the metro-Atlanta area, Dr. Scales was in private orthopedic practice in Wisconsin for several years. He currently lives in the Gwinnett area with his wife and four children.
Dr. Scales is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA).
